Last week, seven children and two young adults represented Baan Unrak at a capacity-building event held at Vajiralongkorn Dam in Thong Pha Phum. The workshop aimed to inspire them to become leaders, and they will return home with renewed enthusiasm to implement projects collectively chosen by their community.
The event gathered over 80 children and teachers from various schools, representing 25 projects from the region. Among these, Baan Unrak selected 3 key projects to be implemented at our home, actively involving our children in the process.
The projects, chosen to be implemented at Baanunrak, are titled 'Handmade with Heart,' 'Exercise for Health,' and 'Good Health with Vegetarian Food.
Project 1: Handmade with Heart
This project focuses on handicrafts and art to nurture and develop mental health. Through creative activities, the children engage in artistic expression, which serves as a therapeutic outlet and fosters emotional well-being.
Project 2: Exercise for Health
Aiming to encourage everyone to prioritize their physical and mental health, this project promotes exercise and physical activities. Baan Unrak has an exercise room available for children and anyone interested. Many of our children are enthusiastic about sports, which inspired the creation of this project. The program incorporates natural therapy to enhance both physical and mental wellness.
Project 3: Good Health with Vegetarian Food
This project seeks to promote the consumption of vegetarian food, emphasizing balanced and healthy nutrition. We believe that vegetarian food can provide complete nutritional value and help build strong health. Our goal is for everyone to have accurate knowledge about selecting and preparing balanced and delicious vegetarian meals.
Now back to the Vajiralongkorn Dam in the Thong Pha Phum program.
The Activities Highlights
Ice-Breaker Games: Activities designed to help children and teachers get to know each other better.
Dream Career Drawing with IKIGAI: The children created drawings of their dream careers using the IKIGAI concept. Afterward, everyone voted on the drawings they found most interesting. The drawings with the most votes were shared and explained by their creators to everyone. Notably, two of the top-voted drawings were created by children from Baan Unrak.
Self-Reliance Skill Workshops
To further develop independence and practical skills, several workshops were conducted:
Herbs for Life: Enhancing Immunity
Participants learned about extracting and distilling herbs, got acquainted with common household herbs, and created herbal inhalers and balms.
Soil Mixing for Desired Plants:
This workshop covered understanding soil nutrients, improving poor soil conditions, mixing soil, and making compost tea.
Baking Workshop:
Children learned recipes and methods for baking cookies and cakes, introducing them to culinary skills.
Creating Eco-Friendly Products:
Participants discovered how to make shampoo from kaffir lime and learned about its beneficial properties.
Fun Physical Activities:
This session taught children how to create toys using simple, everyday materials, promoting creativity and resourcefulness.
Our children presented Baan Unrak's projects through posters and drawings.
Participating in this event provided a valuable learning experience designed to enhance the skills of the children involved.
We are optimistic that these experiences will empower our children to apply what they've learned to future projects and their personal growth. By fostering these skills, we aim to help them become resilient and self-sufficient, enabling them to contribute positively to their communities.
